The second of my final self portraits.
This was one of those unfortunate pieces that proved to be little more than a show of drawing muscle. My idea was to draw myself in a fantastical underwater setting surrounded by deep sea fish and butterflies; in one hand, I hold a luna moth, preparing to skewer it with the fish hook I hold in my other hand. The appearance of this strayed far from the original idea. After the final critique, I made some significant changes to the piece, but I guess we can't always win in our intents. The one on top is before. The one below is after. As individual elements, though, I do like this, so I will upload detail shots. Media: Nupastels on Arches Cover paper, 38 x 52 inches. Detail shots: [link] (I'm pretty sure after working on this that inhaling pastel dust can't be good for you.) |

The smell of love is a great odor but the smell of fear is an even greater one
